School history

 Siauliai Gytariai secondary school was started to build in 1992.The work was done by SC “Arkada”. In 1994-1995 1^st September the school begins its work. One block is ready to function, as well as a canteen and a sports hall. Valerijus Simulik is nominated as the headmaster. During the first school year 20 sets of classes were complemented, with 456 schoolchildren in 1-6 forms. In 1994-1995 most of the schoolchildren are in primary forms, i.e. 340 schoolchildren are in primary forms and 116 are in 5-6 forms. The team of heads consists of the head’s assistants for education: Giedre Ramanauskaite, Rimtautas Peceliunas and the undermanager for property and administration Stasys Vaitkus. There are 30 teachers and 20 operating staff. In this year the Maironieciai circle is founded (the guide- Vitalija Karaliene ).

In 1995 the construction of the school is over. In 1995-1996there were 32 sets of classes with 771 pupils in the 1-10 forms. The team of heads is renewed with the assistant for education Laima Malakauskiene, while the number of teachers grows up to 49. In this year the group of fashion dances “Areka” begins its activities (the guide- Alma Gutauskiene). The contract of cooperation with Vytautas the Great University and Lithuanian Junior Achievement organization is signed.

In 1996-1997 the number of pupils is growing. There are 923 pupils in the 1-11 forms, with 20 sets of classes. There are 5 head’s assistants and 66 teachers. The school gets involved into the republic projects. There are such optional subjects at school: culture of language, the essentials of psychology, the history of art and applied economics. In the 10^th form in the year 1996-1997 the pupils are evaluated by 100 point system, the time of the lessons is 40 minutes. Art gallery called “Palete” starts its work. The contract of cooperation is signed with Kaunas “Varpas” gymnasium.

In 1997-1998 45 sets of classes were complemented with 1076 pupils. Asta Lesauskiene starts working as an assistant for additional education, the number of teachers grows up to 74. Children’s sports club “Gytariai” is founded. The headmaster Valerijus Simulik and a PE teacher Albertas Kepelinskas found the Siauliai amateur basketball league of schoolchildren. This year the first 50 school-leavers graduate the school. New optional subjects are offered: essentials of management, micro economics, choreography.

In 1998-1999 the number of pupils grows up to 1112, with 46 sets of classes and 79 teachers. The Scout organization is started.

In 1999-2000 there are 1150 pupils, 48 sets of classes, 85 teachers, 34 technical and administrative staff. This year new optional subjects are offered: the interesting computers, finance mathematics, philosophy, the history of Siauliai city, the culture of dance and motion, the culture of self-defence, a healthy lifestyle. The school is open to the society, it holds various events for pupils, seminars and conferences for teachers and the school’s managers.

In 2000-2001 there are 47 sets of classes with 1145 pupils. This year is marked with the change of the headmaster of the school, the position of which in February of 2001 takes Rimtautas Peceliunas. This year the school starts “the soft profiling” in 9-10 forms. Schoolchildren and teachers take part in projects: an international project “A school for all”, national projects “A room without fear”, “The informative system of Lithuanian education system”, “The right school”. New projects for the school’s fluctuation are started: “The fourth-former”, “The culture of language at school”.

In 2001-2002 Gytariai school is being reorganized into basic school due to the reconstruction of schools in Lithuania and Siauliai as well. The number of pupils, studying this year, is 1047, with 42 sets of classes. There are significant changes in the management of the school, as the assistants for education are changed and they are less in number. In the team of school managers Edita Minkuviene starts her work in 2002, February. Much attention is paid to the development of the evaluation of schoolchildren’s achievement. The primary school teachers create achievement books for the 1-4 forms. Inevitable changes of the school expand its work with projects: “Me-a citizen”, “Fifth-former” (the head-Asta Lesauskiene). Pupils and teachers are active in other national projects: “The evaluation of the achievement of the pupils in the educational process ”(coordinator -Laima Malakauskiene) “ ,Informing schools about NATO and security”( coordinator- Asta Lesauskiene), “Lithuania in EU”( coordinator- Asta Lesauskiene); and programmes: “Adaptable economics”, “Education for informative society”( coordinator –Rimtautas Pecelounas).

In 2002-2003 there are 926 pupils with 36 sets of classes. This year much attention is paid to profiled education and the restoring of the secondary school status. Cooperation contracts are signed with Siauliai kindergartens “Eglute”, “Z iogelis”, with Jurbarkas district Skirsnemune J. Baltrusaitis basic school. Artistical training is being set at school in the 1^st and 5^th forms. The books of pupils’ achievement evaluation are prepared for the 5^th, 6^th-10^th, 11^th-12^th forms. Pupils and teachers take part in a new national project “I can”, new projects for the school’s change are set: “Me and my school”, “Safe surrounding-safe children”, “What do we chose- a life or an illusion?”. With the lead of the school some national conferences are organized for teachers, as well as some events for the schoolchildren of Siauliai.

In 2003-2004 there are 36 sets of classes with 928v pupils. This year the school is reorganized into secondary school again and the profiled education is started.

The work with projects is even more active. Teachers with their pupils take part in the national project of Dr. J. Kazickas fund for the Lithuanian education. There is also a project called “The Gytariukai holidays with Office 1” and a summer programme “Olympic summer”.

In 2004-2005 there are 33 sets of classes with 879 pupils. This year is an anniversary year- the 10year s of its practice. All the festivals and events were intended for this anniversary: on the 1^st September 1000 balloons with the Gytarieciai wishes and dreams were sent up into the sky; an exciting Teacher’s day; an action day “Present me kindness”; a Christmas festival, sports shows. The school celebrated its anniversary throughout the week with lots of exhibitions; creating of the class symbols; concerts to its friends, parents and guests, as well as sports matches were organized. Special leaflets were released for this occasion, a great schoolchildren’s almanac “The kites of childhood” was created, a wonderful musical “The journey of the ladybird” was shown, as well as a performance called “The angel”. Members of the community were honored in an evening-party. In 2005, 2-6^th May senior students of the school organized and managed the education for the whole week. The school has also organized projects as: “Me and my school”, “What do we chose- a life or an illusion?”, “The evaluation of the achievement of the pupils in the educational process”, “Stop and think”.
